The name "Significa" was the brain (no pun intended) child of John McCoy.

A message from Walter Hecht:
My original 1996 Significa #1 was before the question and answer format was conceived. Significa #1 was actually a complete list of "Dennis Brain on Film." If you have a copy of that posting, it would be very useful to send it to Robin Moffatt as I have lost my original narrative.

For 2002, I have decided to make available to Institutions of Higher Learning (with proper facilities for such an exhibit) or Art Galleries some of the treasures from my collection.
Few people know that Dennis Brain was never shy about sitting for famous photoartists. Those wonderful record jacket photos were no accident. He was formally photographed by virtually all the important photographers in the UK.
What has not found it's way to the record jacket are formal photoart by Howard Coster, the foremost "society" photographer of his time, (six poses, one slightly damaged) and the crown jewell of them all, the silver gelatin print by Norman Parkinson, renown fashion photographer. Biographies of these artists can be readily found on the WWW. There were six signed originals of the Parkinson, one of which was damaged. Of the six, four were given as gifts to friends of the photographer and the damaged one and a good one were kept by the photographer's estate. To my knowledge none of original gift ones have left their original owners. I own the undamaged fifth original from the photographer's estate.
If you think your university music department or gallery would like to exhibit the Costers and the Parkinson in 2002, drop me a line. Be advised that I will be charging a fee to help offset the insurance premiums and worth of the pictures, which is a substantial chunk of change.
If there is no exhibit interest, I show the pictures from time to time at my yearly Dennis Brain Birthday party in May of each year.

Walter Hecht,
